a friend’s bday happy hour was snowed out, so we were all asked to bring a

Tournament of Roses Parade- 1/1 at 11am ET.
my boss is currently in Pasadena, CA, volunteering to make/decorate floats for the Tournament of Roses Parade. she is such a fun retiring lady!
here are some facts about the Rose Parade:
FLOATS: The entire surface must be covered using a variety of flowers, seeds, bark, leaves and other natural materials. No artificial flowers or plant material are allowed, nor can the materials be...
a dog just humped me. feel the love.
I have watched four seasons of How I Met Your...

And it is undoubtedly the only good show in history where the main character is by far the least interesting person. I’ve discussed it with Lainey and she agrees, so I’m pretty sure that makes it a scientific fact.
I see your Ted Mosby and I counter with Leonard ___ (see, I don’t even know his last name) from Big Bang Theory, where Sheldon = Barney.
car to be uncovered approx 6p!
I haven’t seen my car since last Friday at about 7p. Well, I’ve technically seen it as I pass by as I walk to work, but that mostly involved pointing and laughing. Last weekend it was covered in a foot or more of snow….then the plow helped bury it further (plus I think the douche next to me dumped behind my car instead of courteously dumping elsewhere). The front of the car is...
James Franco on General Hospital ( = new daily...
James Franco is on GH for at least a few more episodes- not sure how long. if you haven’t watched soaps, you should know that there is a lot of loyalty to watching your stories.
I have rarely adventured beyond Days (to the short-lived Santa Barbara), and only once beyond NBC…it was during a temp stint in college. the coworkers watched Guiding Light or something.
she's the boss, applesauce!
my boss just gave me a nice little present- mug, cookies, and 2 tickets to Mamma Mia at Wolftrap next summer! yay!

I’m embarassingly disappointed that Tabatha’s Salon Takeover isn’t new tonight.
I LOVE that show (and her!). She is the Gordon Ramsey of hair care. I don’t have cable, so I force my mom to DVR it for me, then when I visit I watch 3-4 episodes in a row.

Unfortunately, The Snowpocalypse was apparently no match for The Workopalypse.
ha!
Actress Brittany Murphy dies in LA at age 32 →
…appeared to be from natural causes but police are investigating.
and I impersonated her with “rollin’ with the homies” just 2 weeks ago. :(
kurt warner is a norse god.
f-ing pinecone’s basket just cut me and gave me tetanus.
i’m really trying to be positive, but i don’t like my office gift. the wax firestarter pinecones look nice, but the smell gave me a headache.
also, I DON’T HAVE A FIREPLACE.
coworker is not impressed/amused by my...
my mom has this on a record (kids, a record!), so I know each little nuance of key changes and such. just wait if they play something by the Kingston Trio…
performance included obnoxious vibrato and jazz hands. what’s not to love?
office exchange- I shopped for myself...
later this afternoon our office will head to M&S Grill (an offshoot of McCormick and Schmick’s), and exchange presents… my present- Rudy DVD, 6-pack of a variety from Trader Joe’s (you can mix and match you know!), Caddyshack DVD, and a snack.
I am overly excited because I want to end up with my gift, or at least with the things in that order.
Hey everybody, we’re all...
Robin Thicke is on Conan…I am shocked to find out that I wouldn’t mind his Sex Therapy. daaamn…
hipster PBR?
I just saw that phrase on a website.
I must have a total misunderstanding of the word hipster, or PBR, or both.
office gift exchange
I’m going shopping tonight for a gift for the office exchange. It’s the white-elephant type- except this year they are putting a limit on the # of exchanges (3), because in prior years the fight lasted 3 hours. for 25 people!
is it wrong that I am going to bring something that I really want? I’m planning to bring a movie, popcorn, and beer…movie will probably be Rudy. ...
"Zuzu's petals!"
I exclaimed this the other day when I emptied my pockets and found a few mint wrappers. I haven’t even watched It’s a Wonderful Life (yet) this year, so these quotes must lurk just below the surface, only to surprise me in December.
OOOOHHHHH a forgotten impersonation! Zuzu saying “teacher says, every time a bell rings, an angel gets its wings!”
i just looked between the box and the bush— I was able to find my way and shoot out onto the path I needed.
charities...
so, it’s that time of year again, when I realize that the charity goals I set for both time and money have not been met. since I can’t create additional time, it’s down to the $ donations.
anyone want to suggest a charity? I always give to The ALS Association & The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society since both have taken their toll on our family…but I am open to...
**exciting impersonation update!**

just in time for the holidays! added to the repertoire, a brand new* impersonation— the guy who says “hangovers!” in the kitschy The 12 Pains of Christmas.
*”hangovers!” sounds suspiciously like “surrender Dorothy?” by the Cowardly Lion.
I always finding myself saying his part too. “Hang-ovas!” My favorite is when he says, “Ah Edith, get me a beeyah, huh?” and the...

this was my dad’s email to me today. he has always abbreviated things, but with the dementia, he’s become “more” of himself in every way- better humor (but quicker to anger too), and abbreviates to the point that he abbreviates his abbreviations.
the above email translated- Hi [nickname]- Hi Liz. hope ok. - I hope you’re doing well. Adid&Amzn vy good ol. - I...
12 days of Christmas are AFTER Christmas.
It seems like a lot of people think that the 12 days end on Christmas. not the case…the 12 days begin on Christmas and last until Epiphany, which is January 6. Epiphany is the day that the 3 kings made it to see JC and brought their gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. myrrrrrrrrrrrh.
In Buenos Aires (at least this is my sister-in-law’s practice), children leave their shoes out...
a fry just fell out of my scarf. sad.
Life's Been Good - Joe Walsh
I have a mansion, forget the price. Ain’t never been there, they tell me it’s nice. I live in hotels, tear out the walls. I have accountants pay for it all. They say I’m crazy but I have a good time. I’m just looking for clues at the scene of the crime- Life’s been good to me so far. My Maserati does one-eighty-five. I lost my license, now I don’t drive. I...
best move of the day:
changing the radio station from one playing crap by Manheim Steamroller to one playing “Life’s Been Good” by Joe Walsh.
yes, I do think MS is crap. because it is.
Tran-Siberian Orchestra, I’m coming for you next!
Pop culture main reason Calif has Chihuahua crisis →
LOS ANGELES – California has more Chihuahuas than it can handle, and it has Hollywood to blame. There are so many Chihuahuas at shelters in Oakland, they have started shipping the dogs out of state.
Experts say pop culture is to blame, with fans immitating Chihuahua-toting celebrities like Paris Hilton and Miley Cyrus, then abandoning the dogs. The problem appears to be specific to California —...
baby boy arrives!
K & M had their baby boy- 9 pounds, 5 ounces! The original due date was 12/15, but the doctor wanted to schedule a C-section since the estimated size was 9 pounds in mid-November. oog.
K will be in the hospital for about 4 days. new fact- only the husband is allowed to visit her in the hospital, due to H1N1 risks. (I freely admit that I was relieved after hearing this…knees are...
high-profile job, yay!
my firm just got the OK to begin surveying the National Mall. big job for us, and could lead to some good things.
there are security items mentioned in the contract…of course it’s nothing in detail since anyone can read the docs…but my imagination is running wild with things they might find/see on the Mall.
incredible friend KelsBels is having a (scheduled) C-section as I type this. please think good thoughts!
today's random tax tip- charitable donations
first the bad news- unfortunately, if you do not itemize your deductions, you are unable to take a tax deduction for charitable donations. but please give anyway. :)
today’s tip- donations on a credit card count for 2009 as long as they are charged by 12/31. It does not matter if you pay the bill in January 2010—the donation is still deductible in 2009.
versus, 12/8.
old job- tried to help hang signs for the annual Toys for Tots donation drive, only to be shoved out of the way (one year, quite literally) by the Admin Asst for the owner. bee. otch.
new job- heading up the campaign!
