note…when visiting the parents, Mom is okay if you don’t go to church with her.
However, she is not okay if she comes home to find you watching the Godfather, especially if you:
- point out to her how awesome the frame of a scene is, with the fields just so, and the Statue of Liberty in the background just so. then of course someone gets shot. (note, I did not put “spoiler”- if you haven’t seen GF I & II, you deserve to be spoiled. III…eh.)
- respond to her only in quotes. “Liz, did you figure out the food issue for the baby shower?” “Leave the gun, take the cannoli.” “what?”
- or “what day are you coming back?” “Monday Tuesday Thursday Wednesday…” “JUST TELL ME THE DAY.”
- make her think that the baby at the christening is going to be killed.
- make her think that the kid in the garden is going to be killed.
- tell her never to take sides against the family. she will say “oh, I’ll give YOU sides.”
any of the above offenses results in a scolding “Elizabeth!!”
